This past weekend was our annual camping trip in Santa Cruz. The trip there started out with a bang. Better yet a crack, while driving a rock flew up, hit and cracked my windshield. I was so not happy about it and since it hit on the driver side I get to look at it every time I drive. Although the trip had a “rocky” start we arrived safe. We set up camp and the kids began to get as dirty as possible.
Friday was our first day at the beach. As usual it was cold, so we went to the beach in long pants and sweatshirts. The cold didn’t stop the kids from playing in the water. Today would be Jill’s very first visit to the beach. She loved it though the water was a bit cold, so she preferred the sand and throwing it into the air. Lucas is not a big dare devil and found it better to entertain himself by making a new friend and playing in the sand. Mason is much more adventurous and was having so much fun playing we almost lost him to the sea. While playing wave tag, he lost his balance running and fell, he was almost able to recover expect the undertow had him and began to pull him out. At the sight of the first fall my sister Andi was slowly making her way to him just in case. When he started going backwards she put it into 5th gear to recover him. She yelled to a man standing near him in the water and the man reached down and grabbed the hood of Masons jacket and pulled him out. Mason was safe but cold and wet. This ended our first day at the beach.

Friday night my brother in laws sister and kids arrived which was great so now my kids had some kids closer to their age to play with.
Evenings at the campsite were laid back, cook dinner, take walks, have a campfire and a treat then off to bed.
Saturday was yet another fun day at the beach and this time Lucas found that playing in the water wasn’t so bad till a wave got the better of him and he was wet. Lucas got his first big boy experience Sunday morning when he was allowed to go to the tide pools with the big kids and Mason wasn't. Mason is just too wild and the tide pools our hard to get to and it just wasn't gonna happen for Mason. Lucas thought that was really cool.

The token quote for the trip was the one given by Mason. While Mason was entering our tent I asked him what he was doing and he said “Something stupid and dangerous” for all of those who know Mason you know these words to be true.

Sounds like so much fun, even though I hate camping! Hallie got pulled in by the undertow last time we were in Santa Cruz too. I had to jump in fully clothed and it scared me to death.
Same time, same place next year! Now that its over, I look back and it was good times, crazy times, but good times.
Ok, so Jill is the cutest with loving that sand! I would like to go camping, just not preggo, or newborn, and i need a flushing potty, but other then that, i want to go camping.

I love looking at everyones Santa Cruz pictures. Brinley had so much fun playing with Lucas. She kept saying "He's SO big, cause he's 5, but he's still friend." And Maddie had fun playing with Mason, too. We'll have to let them play more next year :)
I like the Jill video. She is so crazy. Next year will be interesting when the babies are walking. Jill is going to get Charles into a lot of trouble.
